In the article "North Korea's Latest Missile Test Puts The Entire US In Range" written by Brian Barrett after the latest missile testings from North Korea. Barrett writes with a serious but interested tone throughout this article, as this topic deserves to be taken seriously as it could drastically effect the lives of millions around the globe. High diction is clearly in place here in order for the reader to understand clearly.
Barrett uses a serious tone in order to convey the danger that this could pose to us all. As nukes in any hand are a force to be reckoned with, but in the hands of a man who has been shown to have no regards for humanity, it is something that could quite literally end the world. Though he also shows his own interest in the subject, making it more enjoyable to read. Appealing greatly to Ethos throughout the article, Barrett provides exact statistics "Landing in the Sea of Japan about 600 miles away from the Launch Site. It took nearly an hour to get there, reaching an altitude of about 4,500 miles." he then goes on to state how the new missile recently tested goes above these before mentioned statistics, a scary thing to think about. He makes sure to reference primary sources in order to keep his credibility. The Authors purpose in this article is to educate us about the capabilities of the North Korean missile program, making sure that we know that we are more vulnerable that we had previously thought. However, he then calms us stating that these shots were made without a payload, significantly decreasing the amount of weight it would've had to carry, therefore in all likelihood it cannot make it as far as previously thought. He also educates us on what Trump has said on the matter, showing us that we will hopefully be alright. Overall, Barrett set out to educate us all with his article, and I believe he does it quite well. Making sure to site his sources, and going over all sides of the argument, and state facts clearly.
